Dreamtime!

Went to a party at Joey's, which for some reason was in a house in the New Zealand bush, overlooking a densely forested basin/valley that terminated in a rocky shore. There was a short but intense rainstorm, and when we looked out over the valley again, it had been innundated by the sea, waves breaking over the top of the trees - the leafy tops waving back and forth under the water like seaweed. Joey explained that the whole valley was actually below sea level, which was amazing to everyone. Lightning struck a tree in the yard next door, setting it alight. No-one was too worried because everything was still wet from the rain, but some feedback through the plug sockets (?) set part of the house alight and I had to run around with a small fire extinguisher putting the fires out. They weren't serious (again because of the rain). Andddd that's it.

Small update

Matt's being having a hard time, so I posted a couple of my one-page scripts (and some art!). Some of you will have seen these before.

Also, me and Andy have made a gentlemens' agreement to put the painting on hiatus for a while. Both of us are quite busy at the moment.

New Project

I've mentioned this to a few of you, but I've been keeping it on the lowdown while I got everything sorted out and worked out whether the schedule is feasable (it is; just). But anyway, I have a new project;

http://www.guyswritingcomics.com/

Guys Writing Comics is a blog project that’s exactly what it sounds like - two guys writing comics and posting them online. The key word here being writing. We’re not artists, so while some scripts may come with rough panel outline, don’t expect a full color extravangaza. Except through the power.. of IMAGINATION. Of course you’re welcome to submit art/treatments/sketches of anything we’ve posted. That’s awesome. But the focus will always be on the writing.

The goals of the Guys Writing Comics blog are simple;

  1. To post a new script for a full-sized comic book (around 22-24 pages) every Monday. Sometimes these will be completely original works, sometimes we’ll be playing in other people’s sandboxes. Some scripts will be stand alone, others may be part of a larger arc. Whatever the case we will attempt to tell engaging and enjoyable stories.

  2. To improve our writing skills through sticking to this regular schedule. We’re not professional authors (not yet anyway), but there’s only one way to become a better writer - write, write, and write some more. Constructive, intelligent critique is both welcomed and encouraged. If you feel our writing sucks, that’s fine - provided you can break down exactly WHY this is the case. We’re big boys, we can handle criticism.

    Ugh they're done

    Well, Andy might have beaten me to the punch this month, but he only had one dude to paint. I had 8. In fact I had nine, since I had one Genestealer half-painted so I figured "hey, why not do him with the rest."

    Stupid, stupid idea.

    They're not the best things I've ever painted - I got sick of painting them half way through - but they're done. The glue on the bases is still drying, which is why they look a bit messy.

    Now for drinking.

    For March I will be painting three Zoanthropes.

    Bit late but whatevs

    So I finished my challenge on Time. Andy says he did but there's no proof! He says he left his camera somewheres but that sounds supsicious to me! Nevertheless I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

    This month I will be painting 8 Genestealers with Extended Carapace, Flesh Hooks and Toxin Sacs

    ANDY POST PICTURES OF YOUR LANDSPEEDER EVEN IF THEY'RE JUST CELLPHONE PICTURES

    ALSO WHAT YOU'RE PAINTING THIS MONTH

    Yeah yeah yeah

    One post about the breakup, a million posts about miniatures. NICE ONE MARK, WAY TO GET YOUR EMOTIONAL PRIORITIES IN ORDER.

    But anyway...

    I'm done. Tears water down paint nicely, I tell you what.

    To whom it may concern

    I have broken up with Jes. Those of you that pay attention to Facebook are already aware of this.

    No I'm not going to go into detail, because I don't like sharing things with the internet. However;

    - It was my doing. I ended it.

    - We are still on good terms. Hopefully we can remain so, as she's one of my closest friends.

    - We're still living together for the moment. I've moved into the loungerom. Things aren't too weird yet, but it's hard being around and knowing how much I've hurt her and seeing her upset. Some distance will be no doubt be needed in the near future.

    - It's hard for me too. Mainly the idea that this might have scuppered her plans to get a job and show art in the UK. The idea made me want to scream and beat myself with sticks. I'm slowly getting over that. Jes is a big girl who can make her own decisions, and she's still looking at a variety of options.

    - There is no fifth thing

    NOT JUST A BIOVORE ANDY, GEEZ

    For all none of you that are interested, this is the start of my painting process. The figures have been undercoated, usually with black spray but this time with Gesso, then base coated and inked. All paints and inks are Citadel, since I can just walk to the store and get them. Base green is Catachan Green, Red is Scab Red, the bone base is Vomit Brown. The inks are the old Citadel inks that are no longer made (they've been replaced by new washes which are technically better).

    So if anyone has pots of the old Dark Green Ink and/or Brown Ink you should send them to me please

    When there is no more room in hell....

    It's been a great holiday so far, with the Scotland trip, lots of hanging out with Jes, New Years, and shooting the undead infected right in their horrible putrid heads.

    Yes, I've been playing Left For Dead. It's great, especially when you're playing with friends with headsets.

    Meanwhile, in the Hard Man Painting Challenge... )
